Staff Selection Commission or SSC Exams are one of the most awaited Exams in India because of the high number of Vacancies which open every year. It’s the most sought after Exams due to the prestigious jobs which are offered. The SSC Exam is a great opportunity for all the students since government is focusing on creating a very high number of jobs. The jobs are offered for the most desirable departments of the Government of India: Ministries, Departments, Institutions, Subordinate Offices and Organisations of the Government of India.

The Staff Selection Commission conducts SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) Exam annually for recruitment in various Ministries, Departments, Institutions, Subordinate Offices and Organisations of the Government of India. The various posts for which the SSC CHSL Exams is conducted are:

  • Postal Assistants/ Sorting Assistants (PA/ SA)
  • Data Entry Operator (DEO)
  • Lower Division Clerk (LDC)
  • Court Clerk

Exam Pattern:

The Exam is conducted in the following 3 Tiers:

  • Tier I: Computer (Online) Based Objective Type Examination
  • Tier II: Pen and Paper Mode Descriptive Paper in English/ Hindi
  • Tier III: Skill Test/ Computer Proficiency Test (Qualifying)

Tier-I-Computer (Online) Based Objective Type Examination: The written exam will consist of objective type papers with total time duration of 1 Hour and 100 questions in total. The maximum marks will be 100. The subject wise details are as follows:

There is a Negative Marking of ½ Marks for every wrong answer in Tier I ExamTier-II – Pen and Paper Mode Descriptive Paper in English/ Hindi: This Descriptive Exam is to test the writing skills of the candidates and comprises of writing an Essay of 200-250 words and Letter/ Application Writing of 150-200 words either in English or in Hindi. A minimum of 33% marks are required to qualify for this Exam. The final merit is prepared by Candidates’ Performance in Tier-I and Tier-II Exams.

Tier-III – Skill Test Computer Proficiency Test:For Data Entry Operator:

  • Data Entry Speed of 8,000 (eight thousand) Key Depressions per hour on Computer. The duration of the test will be 15 minutes and printed matter in English containing about 2000-2200 key-depressions would be given to each candidate who would enter the same in the Computer.
  • For post of Data Entry Operator in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG): A speed Test of not less than 15000 key depressions per hour for data entry work to be ascertained through speed test on Computer.
